Hi Laurel,
In regards to the upcoming Board, Commission and Committee appointments (Town Council
Meeting, 11/7/18), I sent emails to all five Council Members today with a recommendation for
the HPC opening. Barbara Spector wrote back to ask If I had also sent this to staff to be included
in record. Not knowing protocol for this sort of thing, I initially did not, but would not have any
issue if this is part of the public record; please consider the following:
Dear Council Member ,
On November 6, you’ll have the opportunity to make several appointments to Town Boards,
Commissions and Committees. The Historic Preservation Committee (HPC) has one opening and
two applicants. I highly recommend you place your mark next to incumbent Robert Cowan’s
name for another 3 year term.
I have found Mr. Cowan to be extremely fair and diligent in his approach to considering every
project I’ve presented to the HPC. Mr. Cowan always seems to be very well prepared on every
agenda item before him. He draws upon his own building experiences as well as staying current
with the design/construction industry, and that allows him to see all sides of the project. It is
also very obvious Mr. Cowan has a great affinity for Los Gatos and maintaining the historic
environment, and I applaud him for all of his hard work.
While I find it encouraging that there are more applicants than positions available, I highly urge
you to reward Mr. Cowan by allowing him to continue with his excellent service to the Town of
Los Gatos.
