RESOLUTION 1990 -164
RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF LOS GATOS
CONCERNING THE FOREST AND WILDLIFE PROTECTION
AND BOND ACT OF 1990
WHEREAS, less than five percent of California's ancient redwood forests remain uncut;
WHEREAS, these proud symbols of our Golden State are inadequately protected by
law, and are being destroyed even faster than the tropical rain forests of the Amazon; and
WHEREAS, the current irresponsible practices of clear- cutting, strip logging and slash
burning are greatly inhibiting California's forests from providing clean water, air and healthy
soils, and sustainable resources for future generations of Californians; and
WHEREAS, the Act would reform California timber harvest methods, including a ban
on the practice of clear- cutting; and
WHEREAS, the Act would provide $742 million in bond funds and require the state
to purchase significant remaining ancient forests throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, these lands would be open to the public, allowing for family recreational
use as well as for protecting fish and wildlife; and
WHEREAS, the Act would provide up to $32 million for workers statewide who could
be displaced by acquisition of ancient forests; and

RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos, County of Santa Clara,
State of California, support and endorses the Forest and Wildlife Protection and Bond Act
of 1990, and encourages all residents to likewise preserve the health of our world and the
beauty of our state's ancient forest forever.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos at a regular
meeting of the Town Council held on this 6th day of August, 1990 by the following vote:
