RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY BILL 3050
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos is
committed to recycling and waste reduction plans and programs in
order to meet the requirements of the California Integrated Solid
Waste Management and Recycling Act (AS 939, 1989); and
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 3050 by Assembly Member Burt
Margolin would provide a financial incentive for the collection
for recycling of the more than 325,000 tons of wine and liquor
containers littered and landfilled in California annually; and
WHEREAS, the total cost to local government in Califor-
nia for the collection and disposal of wine and liquor bottles is
estimated at more than $20 million annually; and
WHEREAS, in the months since consumer refund values
were increased to two - for -a- nickel under California's beverage
container recycling program recycling rates have increased
significantly; and
WHEREAS, the enactment of AB 3050 will assist the Town
of Los Gatos in meeting the objectives of the California In-
tegrated Solid Waste Management and Recycling Act.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS
GATOS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
1. Support Assembly Bill 3050.
2. Convey our support for AB 3050 to Assembly Member
Burt Margolin, our assembly and senate representa-

tive(s), Senator Dan McCorquodale, Chair of the
Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife Committee,
and the California League of Cities and County
Supervisors' Association of California.
3. Direct our legislative representative to join with
representatives of the League of Cities, the
County Supervisors Association of California, San
Diego Association of Governments, Sierra Club
California, the Planning and Conservation League,
the Californians Against Waste in working for the
passage of AB 3050.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town
Council of the Town of Los Gatos, California, held on the 6th day
of August, 1990, by the following vote:
