1990-092-Supporting The Goals And Objective Of The Santa Clara County Greenbelt CoalitionRESOLUTION 1990 -92 RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS SUPPORTING THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY GREENBELT COALITION WHEREAS, Santa Clara County is a special place to live with a prosperous economy and large expanses of greenbelt lands still remaining along the Diablo and Santa Cruz Mountain ranges and in the fertile South Valley; and WHEREAS, a protected Santa Clara County Greenbelt, a large system of protected and productive open space which guides the growth of cities and is essential to the social, economic and environmental well being of the region and its residents; and WHEREAS, the existing Santa Clara County Greenbelt, by physically separating some communities, enhances civic identities and, if protected, promotes a more compact, efficient pattern of development; and WHEREAS, public policy in Santa Clara County already designates much of the Greenbelt for agriculture, open space, watershed or other Greenbelt uses; and WHEREAS, without official protection for the Greenbelt, the region will in the next few years permanently lose large expanses of its open space. RESOLVED, that the Town Council hereby endorses the goals and objective of the Santa Clara County Greenbelt Coalition.
