1989-220-Commending The Disaster Aid Response Team (Dart) For Service To The Citizens Of The Town Of Los Gatos During Earthquake EmergencyRESOLUTION 1989 - 220 RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS COMMENDING THE DISASTER AID RESPONSE TEAM (DART) FOR SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS DURING EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY WHEREAS, conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen within the Town of Los Gatos caused by earthquake commencing at or about 5:04 P.M. on the 17th day of October, 1989; and WHEREAS, the Town Manager of the Town of Los Gatos acting as Director of Emergency Services, did proclaim the existence of a local emergency within the Town of Los Gatos on the 17th day of October, 1989; and WHEREAS, DART responded immediately to provide help and assistance to the Community during this time of peril; and WHEREAS, DART is a volunteer organization whose purpose is emergency response in the event of disaster and to provide search and rescue, medical, emergency response and public services for the Town of Los Gatos; and WHEREAS, DART can stand as a model for all communities to show the type of support available during such a disaster as the Town has experienced. WHEREAS, DART assisted with the initial set -up of the Emergency Operations Center by bringing the portable generator and lights which they maintained throughout the time the Emergency Operations Center stayed outside; and WHEREAS, five DART members were immediately assigned to evacuation sites to provide liaison and support for members of the community who were displaced from their homes. DART also assisted and supported other agencies such as the Red Cross: and WHEREAS, DART members stood security posts in the downtown business district on regular schedules along with Los Gatos Police Officers and those outside agency officers assigned by the Office of Emergency Services; and WHEREAS, in the first 7 days of the emergency DART members provided over 1,000 hours of volunteer services; and WHEREAS, the Town Council recognizes that the nature of this service has been above and beyond the call of duty; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that it is with great pride that the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos renders its deep appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the Community to DART for their dedicated service to the citizens of the Town during the State of Emergency caused by the Earthquake of October 17, 1989, PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos, California, held on the 20th day of November, 1989 by the following vote: AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS NAYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: ABSTAIN: COUNCIL MEMBERS SIGNED; ATTEST: CLERK OF THE TOWN OF LOS GAT S MG112089.R7 Joanne Benjamin, Eric D.
