RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
COMMENDING
LOS GATOS/MONTE SERENO AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY SERVICE/
RADIO AMATEUR CIVIL EMERGENCY SERVICES (ARES/RACES)
FOR SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
DURING EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and
property have arisen within the Town of Los Gatos caused by earthquake commencing
at or about 5:04 P.M. on the 17th day of October, 1989; and
WHEREAS, the Town Manager of the Town of Los Gatos acting as Director
of Emergency Services, did proclaim the existence of a local emergency within
the Town of Los Gatos on the 17th day of October, 1989; and
WHEREAS, ARES/RACES responded immediately to provide help and
assistance to the Community during this time of peril; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of ARES/RACES is to provide an emergency
communication system through a core group of trained amateurs during a disaster
where normal means of communication has been disabled; and
WHEREAS, ARES/RACES staffed the Command Post in Los Gatos 24 hours a
day for the entire 9 days by at least two volunteers from this group and logged
over 3,000 hours of disaster communications; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council recognizes that the nature of this service
has been above and beyond the call of duty;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that it is with great pride that the Town
Council of the Town of Los Gatos renders its deep appreciation and gratitude on
behalf of the Community to ARES/RACES for their dedicated service to the citizens
of the Town during the State of Emergency caused by the Earthquake of October
17, 1989.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the
Town of Los Gatos, California, held on the 20th day of November, 1989 by the
following vote:
