RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
COMMENDING LOS GATOS POLICE RESERVES
FOR SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
DURING EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and
property have arisen within the Town of Los Gatos caused by earthquake commencing
at or about 5:04 P.M. on the 17th day of October, 1989; and
WHEREAS, the Town Manager of the Town of Los Gatos acting as Director
of Emergency Services, did proclaim the existence of a local emergency within
the Town of Los Gatos on the 17th day of October, 1989; and
WHEREAS, LOS GATOS POLICE RESERVES recognized the emergency and
responded immediately to the Emergency Operations Center to provide help and
assistance to the Community during this time of peril; and
WHEREAS, the entire organization unselfishly donated over 465 hours
assisting with the earthquake by performing many of the following tasks:
After the earthquake directly assisting in the initial
search and rescue
Supplementing patrol by allowing two officers in each
patrol car
Fixing posts and cordoning off the damaged areas
Assisting at the Emergency Operations Center, taking
phone calls and giving advice and direction when
needed
Videotaping the damaged areas
Escorting VIP's
WHEREAS, LOS GATOS POLICE RESERVES has continued to provide their
expertise to the Community through many hours of tireless service; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council recognizes that the nature of this service
has been above and beyond the call of duty;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that it is with great pride that the Town
Council of the Town of Los Gatos renders its deep appreciation and gratitude on
behalf of the Community to LOS GATOS POLICE RESERVES for their dedicated service
to the citizens of the Town during the State of Emergency caused by the
Earthquake of October 17, 1989.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the
Town of Los Gatos, California, held on the 20th day of November, 1989 by the
following vote:
