RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
COMMENDING SANTA CLARA COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION,
THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY TRIAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION,
THE PROBONO PROJECT OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY, AND
WEST VALLEY BAR ASSOCIATION
WHEREAS, on October 17, 1989 at 5:04 p.m. an earthquake struck in the
vicinity of the Town of Los Gatos; and
WHEREAS, an earthquake emergency was immediately declared by the Town
of Los Gatos; and
WHEREAS, in response to this emergency the Santa Clara County Bar
Association, the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association, the Probono Project of
Santa Clara County and the West Valley Bar Association combined their efforts to provide
various legal services to the victims of the earthquake, including, but not limited to,
providing volunteer attorneys to staff the FEMA Center in Los Gatos, organizing a number
of clinics or speaker programs for the community, presenting programs on general issues
of law that affect quake victims, setting up an impromptu lawyer referral service specializing
in areas of law concerning quake victims, and providing a half hour of free legal advice in
person or by phone to quake victims; and
WHEREAS, by Saturday, October 28, 1989, more than one hundred twenty (120)
local attorneys volunteered to provide such legal services, with many more volunteering
since then.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town
of Los Gatos does hereby render their deep appreciation and gratitude to these various
legal associations and their members for their unselfish contribution of their time and
expertise.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the
Town of Los Gatos, California, held on the 6th day of November, 1989 by the following
vote:
