RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS COMMENDING MERCHANTS WHO
HAVE PLEDGED TO SUPPORT THE EFFORT TO ELIMINATE THE OPPORTUNITY
FOR MINORS TO PURCHASE ALCOHOL IN LOS GATOS.
WHEREAS, The concern by the community of Los Gatos that many young
people engage in planned and regular use of alcohol continues to grow; and
WHEREAS, The effects of alcohol use is devastating to young people's
lives, to their futures, to their families, to society, and to the educational
environment; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Los Gatos encourages all community members to
become committed to actively participate and support all efforts to reduce the
use of alcohol by the youth of Los Gatos; and
WHEREAS, The community based group known as Merchants for Minors was
formed to include merchants who sell liquor to join in a community effort to
eliminate the opportunity for minors to purchase alcoholic beverages; and
WHEREAS, The following named merchants and their employees have signed
a pledge to re- dedicate themselves to remain vigilant and not relax in their
effort to keep liquor out of the hands of the youth of Los Gatos.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE LOS GATOS TOWN COUNCIL does
hereby render, with genuine appreciation, its gratitude and commendation to
those merchants and the employees of the merchants listed here for their
commitment to the Town, the youth, and its citizens for their cooperation in
this community effort.
