A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
ARTS COMMISSION AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO.
1984 -118 WHICH ESTABLISHED THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
CULTURAL COMMISSION.
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos wishes to change the name
of the Town of Los Gatos Cultural Commission to the Town of Los
Gatos Arts Commission; and
WHEREAS, The Town Council wishes to revise the duties and functions of the
Cultural Commission; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Cultural Commission shall compose the Arts
Commission;
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos, County of
Santa Clara, State of California, that the Town Council hereby establishes the
Town of Los Gatos Arts Commission. The Commission shall be advisory to the
Town Council and shall operate in the manner herein after prescribed.
1. Membership - Or4anization
a. The Commission shall consist of seven (7) voting members, whose terms
of office shall be three (3) years and until their successors are appointed.
The members shall be appointed by the Town Council.
The terms of office of the respective members shall be staggered and
over lapped in such a manner that the terms of no more than one -third of the
members expire each year.
The Town Council shall fill any vacancies occurring during the term of
the Commission. The Commission shall annually designate a Chairperson and Vice-
Chairperson.
b. Four members of the Commission shall constitute a quorum of the Commission
for the purpose of transacting business. Any member shall have the right to present
a minority view to Council in reference to any report or recommendation the
Commission may take.
c. The members of the Commission shall serve without compensation, provided
that with advance budgetary approval of the Town Council, the actual and necessary
expenses (if any) incurred by the members in the conduct of Town business shall
be reimbursable pursuant to the provisions of Resolution No. 1984 -204.
d. The Commission shall meet on the first Thursday of each month in the
Los Gatos Downtown Neighborhood Center and shall otherwise call and conduct
its meetings in compliance with the provisions of Section 54950 et seq. of the
Government Code.
e. Minutes of the actions taken during its meetings shall be kept and filed
with the Town Clerk.
f. Three consecutive absences from regularly scheduled meetings of the
Commission shall be construed as resignation of membership unless the Commissioner
involved formally requests to retain membership and a majority vote of the
Commission sustains the request.
2. Duties and Functions
a. The functions of the Commission shall be to encourage the development of
art, drama, music, and other creative activities in the Town of Los Gatos. Specific
activities would include, but are not limited to:
I. Identify the nature and extent of all existing resources in the arts
in the Los Gatos community.
2. Generate community awareness and support for a full range of activities
in the Arts in the Town.
3. Make recommendations to Town Council and other Town Commissions in
the field of art, aesthetics, and beautification.
4. Perform other duties as assigned by the Town Council.
3. Duration of Commission
The duration of the Commission shall be for a period of three (3) years, and
may be continued or terminated at any time by resolution of the Town Council, to
become effective July 1, 1986.
IT IS HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Council hereby rescinds Resolution
No. 1984 -118.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos, California
at a regular meeting held this 16 day of June 1986, by the following vote:
