RESOLUTION AMENDING THE TOWN'S CLASSIFICATION PLAN
WHEREAS, the Town of Los Gatos has a duly adopted Town
Classification Plan;
WHEREAS, the Town wishes to amend the Classification Plan to
insert the attached statement for Library Assistant
III in place of the current class statement;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Town Council does hereby amend
the Classification Plan.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos,
California at a regular meeting held this 7th day of April,
1986, by the following vote;

LIBRARY ASSISTANT III
DEFINITION
The Library Assistant III Performs a variety of advanced para-
professional library duties. Work is performed under the
direction of the Town Librarian. The incumbent may assume the
responsibility of the day-to-day operation of the Library in
the absence of the Town Librarian.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is distinguished from all other non-professional
library classes in the degree of responsibility required in the know-
ledge and operation of the Library.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The Library Assistant III position may perform any of the duties set
forth in the class specifications for Library Assistant I and II.
In addition, the incumbent:
- Supervises and participates in the processing of all new books
and other library material; catalogs fictional material.
- Supervises the work of the Pages, including interviewing, hiring,
and scheduling.
- Assists the Town Librarian in his/her administrative duties, and
assumes responsibility for day-to-day operation of the Library in
his/her absence.
- Acts as assistant to the Reference Librarian in his/her professional
duties, and assumes responsibility for day-to-day operation of the
Reference Department in his/her absence.
- Functions as Secretary to the Town Librarian and the Library Board,
including attendance at monthly Board meetings and Preparation of
minutes,
Selects pamphlets, newspaper articles, and other publications for
the Vertical File; assigns subject heading,. withdraws material when
appropriate.
Performs bookkeeping functions, including computing and recording
amounts collected from fines, entering payroll information on
computer, taking overall control of bus tickets for Counts' Transit,
including computation of receipts at least once a week.
Provides technical assistance to Para - professional staff.
Operates and supervises the use of a variety of office equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIrICATIONS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to the completion of the
twelfth grade and five years of increasingly responsibile
library experience.
Kaowlod5eof Library procedures of a complex nature including
administration, circulation, cataloging, and the use of reference
sources; principles of supervision and office management.
Mkili T9: Effectively implement and administer assigned
programs and functionsi comprehend and apply Department
policies and procedures; direct the work of others; make
decisions on procedural matters: and maintain effective
working relationships with those contacted in the course of
work.
