1983-210-Approving An Amendment To Town's Position Classification PlanRESOLUTION NO. 1953 -210 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS APPROVING AN AMENDMENT TO TOWN'S POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN. RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos does hereby approve and adopt an amendment to the Position Classification Plan revising the classification of Secretary to Town Attorney (copy attached hereto). Ventura NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS None ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS None ABSTAIN: COUNCILMEMBERS None SIGNED: MAYOR OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS ATTEST: CLERK F THE 4TN OF LOS GAT Town of Los Gatos SECRETARY TO THE TOWN ATTORNEY DEFINITION: Ltember 1983 The Secretary to the Town Attorney performs a variety of legal and administrative secretarial work and clerical functions for the Town Attorney. DISTINGUIS }ZING CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is distinguished from other secretarial classes on the basis of the high degree of confidentiality that must be maintained and the legal secre- tarial skills that are required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: - Transcription and preparation of pleadings, contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents. - Making arrangements for appointments, hearings, depositions and other miscellaneous meetings. - Maintenance of the law library. - Transcription of statements of prospective witnesses. - Sets up and maintains legal filing system. - Writing of miscellaneous reports and correspondence. - Researching, collecting, compiling documents. - Answering the telephone and reviewing departmental mail. - Performs other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and six years of increasingly creasingly responsible experience in clerical and secre- tarial work, at least two years of recent experience as a legal secretary. Additional qualifying education may be substituted for up to two years of the desired experience on a year -to -year basis. Knowledge af: Principles of office management, legal terminology, legal procedures, correspondence forms and correct punctuation, spelling, grammar and vocabulary, record retention systems, and modern office equipment (including word processing equipment). Ability to: Work independently, make decisions on procedural matters with only imf `ted direction received; take dictation at a speed of 110 words per minute, and transcribe accurately at a rate of 50 words per not less than 60 net words per minute from clear co transcription equipment; and maintain effective wor contacted in the course of work; deal with high deg communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
