A RESOLUTION HONORING ALBERT B. SMITH ON THE
OCCASION OF PRESENTATION OF THE DISTINGUISHED
EAGLE SCOUT AWARD, SEPTEMBER 25, 1982,
WHEREAS, AL SMITH attained the rank of Eagle Scout 42 years ago and
has maintained a constant and steadfast interest in scouting,
serving as Assistant Scoutmaster, Explorer Advisor, and
Council Board Member; and
WHEREAS, he has achieved distinction in the business community of the
Santa Clara Valley and beyond as Chairman of Orchard Supply
Hardware, a most successful hardware chain, and is currently
serving as consultant to W. R. Grace Co.; and
WHEREAS, AL SMITH exemplifies community service of the highest order,
having served as a member of the Los Gatos Town Council and
Mayor, as a member of Rotary in Campbell and Los Gatos for
many years and currently president of the Los Gatos Club; and
WHEREAS, he has further demonstrated this concern and community
responsibility by serving as President of the Billy Jones
Wildcat Railroad, which operates in Oak Meadow Park for the
enjoyment of thousands of children and adults, giving Al
further opportunity to enjoy his hobby of railroading; and
WHEREAS, he serves as Director of the Boy Scout Memorial Foundation of
Santa Clara County, helping to secure the financial support
Scouting will need in the future;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town Council of the Town of Los
Gatos, California, does hereby congratulate AL SMITH on the occasion of
his receipt of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT Saturday, September 25, 1982, be declared
AL SMITH DAY
in the Town of Los Gatos in recognition of his many contributions to
Scouting and our community.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA,
at a regular meeting held this 20th day of September 1982,
