A RESOLUTION COMMENDING
CHIEF GORDON C. PAYNE
WHEREAS, Fire Chief GORDON C. PAYNE will retire from the Central Fire
Protection District on February 27, 1982, after a public service
career spanning 36 years; and
WHEREAS, these 36 years saw Chief Payne rising through the ranks as a
Seasonal Firefighter for the California Department of Forestry in
1946 to the position of Chief of the Central Fire Protection District
in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Chief Payne's tenure as Fire Chief was marked not only by his outstand-
ing service to the communities served by the Central Fire Protection
District but also by his widespread participation in professional and
civic organizations such as Santa Clara County Fire Chiefs Association,
the Peninsula Fire Chiefs Association, the California and International
Fire Chiefs Associations, the California Rural Firefighters Association,
and the California Conference of Arson Investigation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
that CHIEF GORDON C. PAYNE be commended for the outstanding service
and dedication he has brought to his tenure as Chief of the Central
Fire Protection District since 1975, and for his many contributions
since first becoming a Firefighter in 1946; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Council does hereby extend to Chief
Payne its hope that his pending retirement from the Central Fire
Protection District is one of deep personal satisfaction and ful-
fillment.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA,
at a reeular meeting held this 16th day of February 1982, by
the following vote:
