A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE USE OF RADAR
FOR THE ENFORCEMENT OF SPEED LIMITS ON
TOWN ARTERIAL STREETS.
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos has become increas-
ingly aware of speeding problems within the Town of Los Gatos; and
WHEREAS, the most efficient mechanism available to law enforcement for
the enforcement of speed limits is radar enforcement; and
WHEREAS, the current State Vehicle Code does not provide for the use
of radar enforcement until specific speed studies have been accomplished;
and
WHEREAS, these speed studies do nothing more than provide an indica-
tion of the level of speed at which drivers wish to drive on various
streets; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council is seeing a continuing increase in speed
limits because of speed studies; and
WHEREAS, this continuing increase in speed is detrimental to the
safety of Town residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town Council formally request
that the League of California Cities consider the endorsement of legisla-
tion that would allow the use of radar enforcement on arterial streets
without specific studies in local municipal jurisdictions; and
FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council request that the League
of California Cities consider, at its annual meeting to be held in October
of 1981, the specific direction to League staff to support a legislative
effort to allow for the use of radar enforcement on arterial streets with-
out specific speed studies in local government jurisdictions.
