A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE
NORTHBOUND OFF -RAMP FROM HIGHWAY 17 TO SOUTH SANTA
CRUZ AVENUE IN LOS GATOS
WHEREAS, the existing northbound off -ramp from Highway 17 to South
Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos has been the location of numerous traffic
accidents; and
WHEREAS, many vehicles entering Los Gatos at this point needlessly
add to traffic congestion on the local Los Gatos streets and could utilize
other Highway 17 off -ramps to more safely and more directly reach their
destination; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council on May 12, 1980, at a public hearing on
downtown traffic and police matters, received testimony from the Town
Police Chief and several local citizens suggesting consideration of
temporarily closing the off -ramp; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council feels that the temporary closing of the
off -ramp would allow study and determination as to the benefits of the
closing and provide data for a decision as to whether the closing should
be permanent;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town Council of the Town
of Los Gatos hereby urges and requests the State of California Department
of Transportation to take the necessary steps, including appropriate signing,
to temporarily close the northbound off -ramp from Highway 17 to South Santa
Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos for a period of at least ninety (90) days).

CALIFORNIA, at a regular meeting held this 16th day of
June , 1980, by the following vote:
