I am sure you are aware that there is a significant Teacher Housing Crisis and schools in California are
struggling to recruit and retain teachers. In fact, California wide 20% of teachers leave the field within 3
years and it is 50% within 5 years.
California is ranked dead last in student to teacher ratios and would need 100,000 new teachers just to
bring this figure to the national average. This is why I support the idea of building affordable housing for
teachers. The schools in Los Gatos also struggle to recruit and retain its teachers. Many of the teachers
have long commutes and simply cannot afford to live in our Town where they work.
I am interested in exploring Sarah Chaffin's proposal to build teacher housing on Dittos Lane.
Sincerely,
ob ele
