RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF LOS GATOS OPPOSING STATE LEGISLATION
THAT WOULD PREEMPT LOCAL AUTHORITY TO
REGULATE SMOKING IN PUBLIC PLACES
WHEREAS, The Town of Los Gatos has accepted the Surgeon General's finding that
secondhand smoking is hazardous to the public health and welfare; and
WHEREAS, Local communities reserve the right to determine local values and
standards and do not require the state to make that determination.
RESOLVED: The Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos opposes any state
legislation that would preempt local authority to regulate smoking in public places.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council held on the 4th
day of April, 1994, by the following vote:
