RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
TO AUTHORIZE TOWN MANAGER TO EXECUTE A NON - BINDING
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU)
TO OPERATE AS A SOUTH BAY CITIES COALITION
WHEREAS, on April 4, 1994 Council approved Resolution authorizing Town
Manager to execute an agreement with the Tadlock Group, consultants to the South Bay
Clean Cities Coalition, to submit a proposal to the Bay Area Air Quality Board for AB434
funding, and develop a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate a South Bay regional
application to the U.S. Department of Energy for "Clean Cities" designation, and
WHEREAS, the effectiveness of the South Bay Clean Cities Coalition has been
demonstrated by obtaining $3 million in grant funding for both CNG conversions, and
electric powered vehicles for Los Gatos and neighboring cities , and
WHEREAS, the clean cities program initiated by the U.S. Department of Energy
to enact criteria established by the Energy Policy Act of 1992, which require purchase of
alternate fuel vehicles in both public and private fleets, and
WHEREAS, on October 21, 1994 the U.S. Secretary of Energy Hazel O' Leary and
other dignitaries will reside over a highly publicized ceremony in Sacramento to award
Clean Cities designation to Northern California metropolitan areas with active clean air
coalitions, and
WHEREAS, public agencies with this designation may receive extra points in the
coming competition for dollar assistance from the DOE in meeting Federal clean air
mandates, and
WHEREAS, to qualify as a "Clean Cities Region" the South Bay needs only a non-
binding Memorandum of Understanding from key agencies who have participated in
successful BAAQMD funding showing their continued support for joint environmental
efforts.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos
authorize Town Manager to execute a non - binding Memorandum of Understanding to
operate as a South Bay Clean Cities Coalition.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of
Los Gatos, California, held on the 3rd day of October, 1994 by the following vote.
