2015-050 - Establish Suicide Prevention PolicyRESOLUTION 2015 -050 RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS ESTABLISHING A SUICIDE PREVENTION POLICY WHEREAS, the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors adopted the Santa Clara County Suicide Prevention Strategic Plan on August 24, 2010. WHEREAS, the Plan identified specific action items for populations of different ages, tailored to their needs, and the Plan also called for governance advocacy, such as local governments adopting suicide prevention policies. WHEREAS, certain Town employees are trained in suicide prevention and intervention, and have successfully helped Town residents and visitors with suicidal tendencies and responded appropriately in other mental health situations. WHEREAS, Los Gatos has experienced a high rate of suicide compared with other communities in Santa Clara County during the period of 2009 through 2013. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: 1. The Town Council hereby establishes a Suicide Prevention Policy to advance best practices as identified in the National Suicide Prevention Plan, the California Suicide Prevention Plan, and the Santa Clara County Suicide Prevention Strategic Plan. 2. This Policy calls for employee education, and for all residents, public and private institutions, businesses, and other entities to work towards preventing suicides and creating a healthier and safer community.
