Subject: Budget Suggestion re Human Services Grants
Dear Honorable Los Gatos Town Councillors,
I would like to call your attention to the CSSC Human Services Grant (HSG) funding. This item is currently
allocated $90,000 for the coming year. It is my understanding that some years ago, prior to the economic
downturn, the HSG funding was approximately $120,000.
Having just been through the grant application review process, we are very impressed by the quality of the
community services that Los Gatos supports and the importance of those grants to our community. We have
presented a recommendation to fund those grants within the projected $90,000 budget. However, this is
substantially below the requested $121,000 amount.
I would like to express the feeling of the CSSC that a modest increase in allocation would be very well spent,
either for the coming year or the next budget cycle. We thus respectfully request that consideration be given to
an increase in the Human Services Grant funding allocation, with a goal of returning to the $120,000 level as
revenues improve and the budget permits.
We would be glad to answer any questions and to provide additional information if needed.
Sincerely,
Tom Picraux, Chair
Community and Senior Services Commission
