Subject: Oka Road Paved Path
Dear Council Members:
I am unable to attend the Council Meeting on May 6th regarding this issue but would appreciate the
opportunity to apprise you of my position for your consideration. I have been a resident of Bonnie
View Mobile Home Park on Oka Road for 8 years now. I am severely disabled with both orthopedic
and coronary medical issues and have found it impossible to safely use Oka Road for exercise (bike
riding or walking) for two reasons: the road itself between the Park and the JCC is in a bad state of
repair which has caused me to fall previously, combined with the fact that there is no sidewalk, I was
forced to walk in the street where traffic could hit me. The area off of the road is dirt and uneven,
making it difficult to use.
I am forced to drive my vehicle out of the Park and go to a park if I wanted to go for a walk, ride my
bike, or walk my pet. This is both inconvenient for me and burdensome. I view this matter as both a
safety issue and a quality of life issue for me and probably many others. Additionally, the dirt side of
the road is impossible to use in winter because it becomes muddy, and in the dark or heavy
rain walking or bike riding on the street is potentially fatal. Your support for repaving the stretch
of Oka Road between the Park & JCC, combined with the installation of sidewalks, would be greatly
appreciated by all.
Respectfully,
Peter Engkilterra, Sr.

Subject: Oka Road Pedestrian Safety Path.
I am in strong support of the paved path on the section of Oka Rd. that some of us walked with the
Mayor, Kevin Rohini, and Greg Larson.
This was Greg Larsons terrific idea that he came up with and Kevin Rohini promptly followed up
with! Added to this, but I was told was not on the consent calendar, should be No Parking signs
along the path. The speed limit signs are also so old and faded they need to be replaced
(and maybe enlarged to be more visible). The Swim and Tennis club membership has gotten large
and on sunny days like last weekend the cars park along Oka with 2 tires in the lane of traffic. This
leaves cars speeding along go over the double lines that were once there (faded and barely visable).
Oka Road is in constant conflict between motorists and pedestrians, children, aluminum scooters,
kids on bikes, dog walkers,
lots of joggers, handicapped, and seniors. One of our neighbors kid "Nick" (11 yrs) got thrown off his
scooter returning from Fisher Middle School, and injured his leg and I got knocked down in January
by a very fast truck. Other people have told me recently other similar stories too numerous to list
here. Many people have seen Jim Suits wife walking with her walker up and down this section in the
lane of traffic while Jim uses the gym at the tennis club. Sargeant Walpol of the PD said that there
were about 1,100 average cars per day and the average speed was over the speed limit. Many
residents I have spoken to have had issues with cars pulling out of the Swim and Tennis club. Greg
Larson is aware of this and is going to address this with the management. Your support is
appreciated in making this (our only way in and out) a much safer route for our motorists, kids, and
pedestrians! I would be happy to walk with any one of you if you need to see this; as a walk and
seeing it in person is worth a hundred emails.
Sincerely Yours,
Dick Henning, 100 Mojonera, 408-356-2004.

Dear Los Gatos Town Council,
We support the paved path proposal for Oka Road. This important route needs the safety of wide paved shoulders for
the many pedestrians and bicycle riders who use this route every day as the only main entry and exit from the whole
area. There is enough usage that for safety both sides of the street should be paved.
Thank you,
-Steve and Sharon Brodsky

Subject: I strongly support "Oka Road Paved Path" Project
Dear Los Gatos City Council members,
I live at 112 Mojonera Court, Los Gatos. I am writing this letter to express my strong support to "Oka
Road Paved Path" project.
I am a strong believer of protecting environment. One of the ways to reduce green house gases is to
provide infrastructure to encourage alternative transportation. I see the following benefits to the paved
path between JCC and Mobile Home Park on Oka Road....
1. Paved path between Mobile home park and JCC will encourage children to ride bicycles to
schools. This will take out few cars from the roads during rush hours
2. Increases safety to pedestrians as well as motorists. Very often I see cars moving over to the other
side of the road to maintain safe distance with the pedestrians.
3. Encourages members of JCC and Los Gatos Swim and Racquet club members to walk/bike to the
clubs.
I strongly request you to prioritize this project and approve adequate funding for this project to be
completed in Summer 2013.
Thank you ver much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Raghu Chinnakotla

Subject: Oka Road walking path
Hello,
I am writing in support of the proposed Oka Road walk/bike path, planned to be between the Swim & Racquet Club and
the JCC. I've walked or biked by here on a daily basis and have seen some really close calls for pedestrians getting hit or
pushed off the road by cars. I can't make it to the meeting tonight but wanted you to know of my support of it. Thank you!

Hello, my wife, Sivi, and 2 kids live on Mozart Ave down past the LG Swim & Raquet Club off Oka Rd. We
are very supportive of a paved path down Oka Rd as the current condition is dangerous for both walkers and
bikers traveling down Oka Rd with no sidewalk or paved path on either side.
We can not make the town council meeting this evening, but wanted to share our support and thank you for the
consideration.

Dear Council Members,
I am a 29 year resident of the Oka Road area and I support improving the Oka Road area between the Mobile Home Park
and the JCC for safety reasons. There is no easy way for pedestrians to pass there. A neighbor has suggested a paved
walk path and that would be a god -send for us.

Dear Council Members:
We are not able to be at the Town Council Chambers this evening but wanted you to know that we are very much in favor
of the paving of the path between the Bonnie View Home Park and the Jewish Community Center. We live in Bonnie
View and my husband and I receive physical therapy from MORE PT which is within the Jewish Community Center
building. It would be much safer to walk on a path and/or sidewalk than to walk in the street for safety sake. Thank you
for your consideration.

Subject: Sidewalk on Oka Road
Hello. I am a long time resident at the Bonnie View Mobile Home Park (21 years) and walk my dogs daily along Oka
Road. The road fronting the walnut orchards on both sides of the street lack both sidewalks and lighting, making it quite
dangerous. I often see people struggling to push strollers over the uneven gravel and recently noted an elderly man
using 2 canes and an elderly woman using a walker and having to walk in the street, as neither could navigate the
current treacherous path. It would be advantageous to connect the sidewalks between the JCC and the Hwy85
underpass on one side of the street and between the Oka Road apartments and the Hwy85 underpass on the opposite
side of the street. In addition, I think many residents would be pleased to see the LG town bus make periodic stops along
Lark Ave. It's a long walk to Good Sam in order to access public transportation. Thank you for your interest.
