The Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos conducted a Special Meeting on Monday,
November 29, 2010 at 6:00 P.M.
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER

Present: Mayor Joe Pirzynski, Vice Mayor Steve Rice, Council Member Barbara
Spector, and Council Member Mike Wasserman.
Absent: Council Member Diane McNutt

DISCUSSIONS
The Study Session was conducted in a retreat format with Town Council members and
Town Commission and Board Representatives, including:
Arts and Culture Commission – Shaun Charnaw, Vice Chair
Community Services Commission – Matt Guettler, Vice Chair
Library Board – Lyn Dougherty, Chair
Parks Commission – Barbara Holden, Chair
Planning Commission – John Bourgeois, Chair
Transportation and Parking Commission – Ed LaVeque, Chair
Youth Commission – Nicky Robinson, Chair and Ben Baranovsky, Vice Chair
1. 2010-12 Core Values and Strategic Goals
Mayor Pirzynski welcomed the participants to the Study Session and commented on
the purpose of the session to discuss the Commissions’ and Boards’ suggestions for
potential 2011-13 Town Priorities.
The participants, audience and staff provided self-introductions.
2. Fiscal Year 2011-12 Budget Outlook
Town Manager Greg Larson presented a brief overview of the Town’s fiscal condition
and outlook.

3. Discussion on potential 2011-13 Town Priorities
Commission and Board representatives commented on their potential strategic issues
presented in the staff report for Council’s consideration.
Additional comments not included in the staff report included:
Shaun Charnaw , Community Services Commission, clarified the Commission’s
suggestion to expand Los Gatos Prepared to address vulnerable populations
such as the elderly and disabled.
Lyn Dougherty, Library Board, clarified their comment regarding navigation on
the Town’s website related to the information on Boards and Commissions.
John Bourgeois, Planning Commission, requested further discussions with
Council to receive guidance on broader policy issues.
Ed LaVeque, Transportation and Parking Commission, and Nicky Robinson,
Youth Commission, discussed issues and ideas to address traffic problems
related to school traffic. Suggestions included involving students and parents in
the conversation and providing incentives for alternative to single-occupancy
vehicle use.
The audience was invited to participate in the discussion and the following comments
were made:
Request to include a community room in the reuse plan for the existing library.
Request for a used magazine bin in the new library.
Suggestion to contact Congressman Joe Simitian to sponsor legislation to
facilitate car-pooling for students going to and from school since current law
restricts this practice for new drivers.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
