RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL/REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS ALLOWING RECOGNITION PLAQUES IN THE NEW LIBRARY TO
VARY FROM THE STANDARDS SET FORTH IN THE SOLICITATION AND DONATION POLICY AND
AUTHORIZING THE COUNCIL AD HOC LIBRARY SUB-COMMITTEE TO APPROVE ADDITIONAL
EXCEPTIONS, IN NECESSARY
WHEREAS, the Town Council approved a Solicitation and Donation Policy on Apri121, 2008, setting forth
guidelines and procedures regarding accepting and recognizing donations, specifically setting standards for the wording
and sizes of commemorative plaques; and,
WHEREAS, the policy provides that Council may, on a case by case basis, specify exceptions to the standards
under special circumstances via resolution; and,
WHEREAS, the Town is building a new 30,000 sq. ft. library, and the Friends of the Library are conducting a
capital campaign to raise $2.1 million to cover furniture, fixtures and equipment costs for the new library; and,
WHEREAS, flexibility th the policy standards for donations at the $500,000 level is needed to recognize these
donations, specifically: 1) allowing the recognition wording to cover up to a 9"x12" area; 2) allowing the inclusion of
multiple names as part of the recognition; and, 3) accepting the design of the donor wall to consist of separate small
plaques with the donors' names in categories according to the level of their donations; and
WHEREAS, to avoid delays that may result in the loss of donor opportunities, staff requests that Council
authorize the Ad Hoc Library Sub-Committee to approve additional variations if they arise, following notice to the
Council of the proposed change in the event that Council would like to request that the proposed change be agendized
for full Council consideration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town Counci]Bedevelopment Agency hereby approves
the variations to the standards set forth in the Solicitation and Donation Policy for the new library project as listed
above.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Town Council/Redevelopment Agency hereby authorizes the Ad
Hoc Libruy Sub-Committee to approve additional variations if they arise, following notice to the Council of the
proposed change in the event that Council would like to request that the proposed change be agendized for full Council
consideration.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council/Redevelopment Agency of the Town of
Los Gatos held on the 2nd day of August, 2010, by the following vote:
