RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO ACCEPT FUNDS FROM THE OFFICE
OF TRAFFIC SAFETY GRANT AGREEMENT FUNDS FOR THE LOS
GATOS/MONTE SERENO POLICE DEPARTMENT'S "WALKING SAFE" TRAFFIC
PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Office of Traffic Safety has awarded the Town of Los Gatos an Office of
California Traffic Safety Grant; and
WHEREAS, the grant application specified the grant funds would be used to purchase
traffic safety educational material, equipment, and training; and,
WHEREAS, the Town of Los Gatos is entitled to receive approximately $33,257.00 under
the terms of the California Traffic Grant Program if specified requirements are met; and
WHEREAS, the OTS funding cannot be used to duplicate or overlap ongoing projects whose
costs are currently funded with Federal funds; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council has considered the written request separate and apart from
the allocation of general funds for police programs;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos,
County of Santa Clara, State of California, that the Town Manger is authorized to accept funds from
the Office of Traffic Safety for the purpose of funding traffic safety educational materials,
equipment, and training for the "Walking Safe" traffic program.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los
Gatos, California, held on the 5th day of June, 2000 by the following vote:

The primary goal of the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department's ,Walking
Safe" program is to train second -grade students in basic pedestrian safety rules.,
reduce speed related crashes, increase occupant restraint compliance, and
increase the number of DUI arrests. Most importantly, the program will .form'
partnerships and incorporate a community -wide multi -disciplinary approach to
address traffic safety problems. The proposal requests funding for educational
material, equipment, and training.
