AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING BY REFERENCE AND MODIFYING
THE 1953 EDITION OF THE UNIFORM ELECTRICAL CODE
AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE 1953 EDITION OF THE
NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE AND PROVIDING FOR. PENALTIES.
THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS DOES ORDAIN
AS F OLLOW S:
Section 1.
4a) Pales and Regulations containing basic minimum
provisions considered necessary for practical
safeguarding of persons and of buildings and
their contents from hazards arising from the use
of electricity for light, heat, power, radio,
signaling, and for other purposes; covering the
electrical conductors and equipment installed
within or on public or private buildings or other
premises, including yards, carnival and parking
lots, and industrial sub-stations; also the
conductors that connect the installations to a
supply of electricity, and other outside conduct-
ors adjacent to the premises; and providing for
Administration, Organization and Enforcement;
Permits and Inspection, Fees for Permits and
Inspection, and Certificates to be issued;
printed as a code in pamphlet form being entitled
"Uniform Electrical Code 1953 Edition". published
by the Pacific Coast Electrical Bureau, and which
said code in Section 6 D adopts by reference a
code entitled 111953 National Electrical Code" as
recommended by the National Fire Protection
Association and as approved August 7, 1953 by
the American Standards Association; not less
than three copies of the "Uniform Electrical

Code 1953 Edition" and not less than three copies
of the 01953 rational Electrical Code", all
certified to be true copies by the Town Clerk of
the Town of Los Gatos, having been for at least
15 days preceding the Public Hearing on this
ordinance, and continuously since, and are now,
and shall be kept on file in the Office of the
Town Clerk of the Town of Los Gatos for public
inspection thereof; reference being hereby made
to said Uniform Electrical Code 1953 Edition,
and said 1953 National Electrical Code, for all

the regulations, provisions, conditions, terms
and requirements therein shown, and said regula-
tions, provisions, conditions, terms and require-
ments and said Uniform Electrical Code 1953
Edition and said 1953 rational Electrical Code,
are and each is hereby adopted by reference and
made a part hereof, the same as if fully set
forth in this ordinance and are and each is by
such reference adopted as Sections of this
ordinance, being the same numerical Section
designations as appear in said Uniform Electrical
Code 1953 Edition and said 1953 rational Electri-
cal Code, except as modified in sub-section (b)
hereinafter set forth; and as such, are and each
is adopted as and for the Electrical. Code of the
Town of Los Gatos.
(b) (1) That wherever the words "Permit" or "Permits"
appear in said Uniform Electrical Code there
shall be substituted in lieu thereof, the
words "Written Permit" or "Written Permits",
and that all permits required to be issued by

Elementary School District, or any other poli-
tical subdivision of the State of California."
(3) Section 10 of the Uniform Electrical Code is
hereby omitted and deleted therefrom.
(4) That wherever the words "Chief Electrical
Inspector appear in said Uniform Electrical
Code there shall be substituted in lieu
thereof the words "Building Inspector".
Any person, firm or corporation violating any
of the provisions of said code, as adopted herein, or
of this ordinance, shall be deemed guilty of a misde-
meanor and each such person, firm or corporation shall
be guilty of a separate offense for each and every day,
or portion thereof, during which any violation of any of
the said provisions of said code, or of this ordinance,
is committed, continued or permitted, and, upon conviction
thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not more than
FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500.00), or by imprisonment in the
County Jail for not more than six (6) months, or by both
such fine and imprisonment."

said Electrical Code shall be in writing
signed by the Building Inspector of the
Town, or his duly authorized deputy. Said
written permits shall be issued in tripli-
cate; one to the applicant, one filed with
the Town Clerk, and one shall remain on
file with the Building Inspector.
(2) The following sentence is hereby added to
Section 3: "Fees shall not be required for

issuance of permits for buildings erected or
T~ remodeled for and owned by the United States
of America, State of California, County of
Santa Clara, Town of Los Gatos, Los Gatos
Union High School District, Los Gatos Union

Section 3. This Ordinance shall not be construed as imposing
upon the Town of Los Gatos any liability or responsibility for
damage resulting from defective buildings; nor shall the Town of
Los Gatos, or any official or employee thereof, be held as assum-
ing any such liability or responsibility by reason of the inspect-
ion authorized thereunder.
Section 4. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in con-
flict with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 5, This Ordinance shall be published once within
fifteen (15) days after its final passage in the "Los Gatos Daily
Timesu, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published
in the Town of Los Gatos, California.
Introduced at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the
Town of Los Gatos after a Public Hearing thereon held in the manner
and after notice given thereof as required by law, this 6g°'-`day of
1954.
PASSED AND ADOPTED AT A REGULAR MEETING OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS, held on the 2-day of 1954, by
