AN ORDINANCE REGULATING OFF-STREET PARKING ON PARKING LOT OPERATED
BY THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS, AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION
THEREOF.
THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE `ITO4'YN OF LOS GATOS DOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS
Section 1. For the purpose of this Ordinance:
(a) The word "vehicle" shall mean any device
in, upon, or by which any person or property is or may be trans-
ported upon a highway, except a device which is operated upon
rails or tracks.
(b) The word "person" shall mean and include
any individual, firm, co-partnership, or corporation.
Section 2. The Town of Los Gatos is operating a parking
lot upon a portion of that certain real property located in the
Town of Los Gatos, County of Santa Clara, State of California,
bound Westerly by Boone Lane., East by the Southern Pacific Railroad
Tracks, South by West Main Street and North by Elm Street, which
said portion is not set aside for more restrictive use by persons
other than the general public.
Section . It shall be unlawful and a violation of this
Ordinance for any person to cause, allow, permit, or suffer any
vehicle registered in his name or operated or controlled by him
to be parked in any parking stall upon said parking lot for a
period .of°:time longer than two (2) hours between the hours of
9:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M., except Sundays and Holdiays.
Section 4. The Chief of Police shall have lines or
markings painted or placed upon said parking lot for the purpose
of designating the parking space for each vehicle, and said
vehicle shall park within the lines or markings so established.
It shall be unlawful and a violation of this Ordinance to park
any vehicle across any such line or marking or to park any
vehicle in such a position that the same shall not be entirely
within the area so designated by such lines or markings. It
shall be unlawful and a violation of this Ordinance to park in
or obstruct the driveways or parking lanes reserved for travel
of motor vehicles, in and through and out of said parking lot.
Section 5. It shall be unlawful and a violation of this
Ordinance to travel in, on, or through said parking lot described
in Section 2, at a rate of speed in excess of five (5) miles per
hour.
Section 6. The Chief of Police is hereby instructed to
install and maintain appropriate signs giving notice to the public
restricting the stopping, standing, or parking in accordance with
this Ordinance.
Section 7. This Ordinance, so far as consistent there-
with, shall be deemed to be in addition and supplementary to,
and not in conflict with nor a repeal of prior or existing
Ordinances of this town; but shall be an additional provision
for the regulation of off-street parking.
Section 8. Any person violating any provision of this
Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon
conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine not exceeding
Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), or by imprisonment in the County
Jail of the County of Santa Clara, for a period not exceeding
six (6) months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
Section. 9. This Ordinance is hereby declared to be an
urgency measure and necessary for the immediate.preservation of
the public health and safety and shall take effect and be in
force forthwith from and.after its final passage. The following
is a statement of the facts constituting such urgency:
The Town Council finds that,it is necessary to relieve

heavy traffic congestion on the streets of the Town of Los Gatos
in the vicinity of said parking lot.
This Ordinance shall be published once with the names
of the members voting for and against the same, in the Los Gatos
Daily Times, a newspaper published in the Town of Los Gatos.'
INTRODUCED AT AN ADJOURNED MEETING of the Town Council of
the Town of Los Gatos held on the _ day of March,1954.
PASSED AND ADOPTED AS AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LOS
GATOS, CALIFORNIA, AT A REGULAR MEETING OF THE TOWN COUNCIL.
