Item 13 Staff Report Adopt Resolution Authorizing Manager to Execute an Agreement with Peek Traffic Company for Signal Maintenance ServicesMEETING DATE: 11/20/95 ITEM NO. COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT DATE: November 13, 1995 TO: MAYOR AND TOWN OUNCIL FROM: TOWN MANAGER SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH PEEK TRAFFIC COMPANY FOR SIGNAL MAINTENANCE SERVICES RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution authorizing Town Manager to execute an agreement with Peek Traffic Company for signal maintenance services. BACKGROUND: The adopted 1995/96 operating budget (Gas Tax Fund) line item account provides for traffic signal maintenance. The current contract agreement has expired. Section 2.50.130 of the Town Code requires approval by Council for this type of agreement. DISCUSSION: Peek Traffic Company currently provides preventive maintenance, emergency service and repair of twenty-three signalized intersections and one pedestrian crossing within Town boundaries, and has been doing this role for 14 years for the Town. Peek Traffic Company is the sole provider of services to a majority of Northern California cities and counties. The Cities of Saratoga and Cupertino contract for maintenance services, minor signal repairs, and accident repairs with Peek Traffic Company. The City of Campbell contracts with Peek Traffic Company for damages resulting from vehicle accidents. The City of San Jose and the County of Santa Clara maintain their signals with in- house personnel. Both jurisdictions contend this is a cost-effective approach based on number of signalized intersections maintained on a daily basis. CONCLUSION: Staff recommends contracting signal maintenance services with Peek Traffic Company. There are no other traffic signal contractors in the County of Santa Clara that provide this type of service.
