Dear Council Members;
I recently received a rate increase notice from Green Valley
Disposal Company for the commercial services they provide for
trash pick up at our apartment buildings that are located in Los
Gatos.
The amount of the rate increase is alarming. We use 3 yard bins
that are picked up once per week. The rate increased from $71.40
per month to $88.15 per month. This is a 23.5% increase! I cannot
reason why they should have been granted such a substantial rate
increase.
I find it difficult to accept that the town council approved
these increases without any public notice, or any survey to see
if compareable services are available from other companies at a
lower cost to the taxpayer. Browning -Ferris just lost the city of
San Jose contract, and they could possibly be interested in a
competitive bid against Green Valley.
I am disappointed with the Los Gatos Town Council for not taking
a closer look at these increases. Landlords are under rent
control, and are restricted in Los Gatos on how much of their
operating expense increases can be passed on to tenants. I would
appreciate some response to this situation.
