Attached for your review is a copy of the Certified Local Government Annual Report for 1994. An annual report of the
Town's Historic Preservation Committee is required to be submitted to the State each year. The report is reviewed by the
State Office of Historic Preservation as part of the annual evaluation for continued certification. The report includes a list
of applications dealing with historic preservation which were acted upon that year, local preservation activities, public
education in preservation which was provided, and training that Town Committee members and staff have received.
Town staff is currently working on the 1995 report and when completed, copies could be distributed to Council if requested.

NARRATIVE SUMMARY OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
As a result of an unlawful demolition of. an historic structure in 1993, Town Council directed staff and the
Historic Preservation Committee to develop an ordinance to deal with unlawful demolitions. The Committee
has obtained ordinances from various jurisdictions and information from the National Trust for Historic
Preservation that deal with unlawful demolitions. The Committee and Staff have been working on the
ordinance and have been considering the types of penalties that should be imposed.
The Town received a Certified Local Government Grant to send Town Staff and Historic Preservation
Committee members to historic preservation related workshops to be continually educated in historic
preservation.

The Town hosted a portion of the tour 4/18/94
for the APA Conference's. Discussed process
for historic structures and toured rehabilitated
earthquake damaged residences and
commercial buildings.
Restoration of a 102 year old three-story
5,000 square foot Queen Anne residence
(55 Hernandez Avenue) which was significantly
damaged by the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

earthquake restoration of historic structures.

to discuss the restoration of the Town after
the 1989 earthquake for a magazine article.
