ADDENDUM
DISCUSSION ON PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE APPROVED ARCHITECTURE AND
SITE APPLICATION. PROPERTY LOCATION: 50 UNIVERSITY AVENUE (NEW
BUILDING). PROJECT APPLICATION PRJ-99-001. PROPERTY OWNERJAPPLICANT:
SRI OLD TOWN LLC.
Town staff met with representatives from Old Town on March 26, 1999 to discuss the unapproved exterior changes at
Building E. Following is a list of additional changes not provided in previous reports, a discussion on why the developer
is proposing these changes and a list of issues dealing with the changes.
ADDITIONAL PROPOSED CHANGES
1. A medallion window was approved at the center of the portion of the building located at the northwest corner.
The tenant (Gap) wishes to install a sign in lieu of the window.
2. The developer is proposing to eliminate the landscape planters in front of the recessed arches at the building
at the northwest corner. There is inadequate room to install these planters due to the location of the stairs to
the garage and the garage vent fans.
3. Architecture elements are missing throughout Building E (ie: trim pieces, coping, crown moulding). Old
Town is checking into this to determine whether or not they will request any changes. Since the building is
still under construction these elements may not have been installed yet.
4. The request to frost or opaque the lower windows and doors has been eliminated by the developer.
ISSUES
I. Although Old Town intends to install windows and doors at the west elevation for the Gap and Gap Kid
businesses, the developer is requesting that the doors not be available to pedestrians and the windows not view
into the business since it is the stockroom. Old Town is proposing shop display windows in these areas. The
issue with one of the windows, located closest to Elm Street, is to get enough depth for adequate display area.
2. The elevations for Steamers is still pending before the Planning Commission. However, for Council's
information, the two metal doors are not being requested for pedestrian access. One of the doors goes into the
back of the restaurant and the other door is to the elevator mechanical room.
3. The upper windows at the southwest corner of the building do not view into any room. Old Town is looking
at alternative ideas for tinting the windows.
