RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
REPEALING RESOLUTION 2021-042, DISSOLVING THE GENERAL PLAN COMMITTEE,
AND DESIGNATING THE PLANNING COMMISSION TO HEAR AND MAKE
RECOMMENDATIONS ON GENERAL PLAN AND SPECIFIC PLAN AMENDMENTS
WHEREAS,the General Plan Committee (GPC) was established by the Town Council of
the Town of Los Gatos to provide recommendations to the Planning Commission and Town
Council on matters related to the General Plan and Specific Plans; and
WHEREAS,the GPC was originally established to support long-range planning efforts,
including review of proposed General Plan amendments, and to promote community
participation in shaping the Town's land use policies; and
WHEREAS,the GPC has experienced limited activity in recent years, holding only 8
regular meetings between January 2021 and April 2025,
WHEREAS, other local jurisdictions do not maintain a separate GPC, and instead
designate the Planning Commission to review and make recommendations on General Plan and
Specific Plan amendments; and
WHEREAS, consolidating this function under the Planning Commission is expected to
improve procedural efficiency, eliminate duplication of effort, and streamline the review
process; and
WHEREAS, at its meeting on May 14, 2025, the GPC voted unanimously to recommend
to the Town Council that the Committee be dissolved and encouraged the continued use of ad
hoc citizen committees, as needed, that include members of the general public; and
WHEREAS,the Planning Commission has the expertise, procedural framework, and
existing role to assume these duties and ensure continued compliance with state and local
planning requirements.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos
does hereby declare, determine, and order that:
1. Resolution 2021-042 and all other preceding enabling resolutions are hereby
repealed in their entirety, thereby dissolving the GPC.
2. The Planning Commission is hereby designated as the reviewing body for all requests
related to General Plan Amendments and Specific Plan Amendments, and shall
provide recommendations to the Town Council, as required by law and municipal
code.
