Item 14 Staff Report Extend Deadline to Remove Private Benches from Public RIght-of-Way in the Central Business District Until July 1, 19962
COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: 2/20/96
ITEM NO. 1
DATE: February 15, 1996
TO: MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL
FROM: TOWN MANAGER %AL,.
SUBJECT: EXTEND DEADLINE TO REMOVE PRIVATE BENCHES FROM PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY
IN THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT UNTIL JULY 1, 1996.
RECOMMENDATION:
Extend deadline to remove private benches from public right-of-way in the Central Business District until July 1, 1996.
DISCUSSION:
On September 18, 1995, Council extended the deadline to remove private benches from public right-of-way in the
Central Business District to March 1, 1996. The extension allowed the benches to remain while Phase II of the
Streetscape and Improvement Guidelines was being prepared. Council decided to postpone installation of new benches
under the Adopt -A- Bench Program until the Phase II Guidelines are approved. Upon approval, new benches donated
through the Adopt -A -Bench Program may be installed in accordance with the Lighting and Furnishings Plan which will
show the location of benches and other street furniture. The Phase II Guidelines will not be ready for Council approval
until at least March 18, 1996. As a result, it is necessary to extend the deadline for removing benches to July 1, 1996.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENTS:
Extension of the deadline to remove benches is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
