RECOMMENDATION:
Amend Town Council/Redevelopment Agency Meeting Schedule for 1999-2000 Fiscal Year rescheduling February
28, 2000 Joint Town Council/Parking Commission meeting to March 27, 2000
BACKGROUND:
At its meeting on January 3, 2000, the Town Council requested that the Parking Commission conduct a work session
with representatives of the downtown neighborhoods and business community to brainstorm solutions. That meeting
was held Wednesday, January 19th at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers. Information and ideas gathered at that
meeting were to become the basis for the Joint Town Council/Parking Commission meeting on Monday, February 28,
at 7:30 p.m., in the Town Council Chambers.
The meeting (moderated by Larry Gerston) considered current parking problems, and two to three representatives were
identified to represent each of the three groups (businesses, the Almond Grove, and Edelen). The representatives met
with Gerston on January 22nd. This meeting was not very productive, and the representatives decided to hold meetings
on their own without a facilitator.
The neighborhood residents have been meeting, and their next meeting was scheduled for February 17t. The Parking
Commission will then meet with these three groups to develop some solutions to the parking issues identified. Until
the Parking Commission schedules this meeting, it will not be able to make recommendations to Council.
The Parking Commission meeting is being rescheduled to March, in hopes that the Parking Commission would by then
have some options to discuss with Council.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:
Is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
