REMARKS:
Attachment 10 includes an evaluation of the residence’s existing roof structure from an
architect and a discussion of the materials that would be appropriate for the existing roof
structure. Attachment 11 includes examples provided by the property owner of homes and
commercial buildings in the downtown area that include standing seam metal or membrane
style roofing.

Does the uniform building code allow you to install barrel
roofing on a 3 and 12 pitch roof?
No, according to the Uniform Building Code, a barrel
roof (which typically requires a steeper pitch for proper
water runoff) cannot be installed on a 3:12 pitch roof as
it falls below the minimum slope required for most
roofing materials, including barrel tiles, to function
effectively; most building codes mandate a minimum
pitch of 4:12 for barrel tile installations.
Key points to remember:

Most building codes, including the UBC, specify a
minimum roof pitch for barrel roofing, usually
around 4:12.
Water runoff concerns:
A low pitch like 3:12 may not adequately channel
water away from the roof, leading to potential
