TOWN OF LOS GATOS
COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: 09/17/2024 ITEM NO: 5 DESK ITEM
DATE: September 17, 2024
TO: Mayor and Town Council
FROM: Katy Nomura, Interim Town Manager
SUBJECT: Authorize the Interim Town Manager to Execute an Agreement with Rotary
Club of Los Gatos for Acceptance of a Gift of an “Oak Grove” at Live Oak
Manor Park
REMARKS:
In response to Council Members’ questions, staff has provided the following responses to the
summarized questions in italics:
1. First, I wanted to make sure that the existing basketball court is factored into the design.
That basketball court is in use most days I walk through the park and I wanted to make sure
neither the basketball court or path is comprised by the placement of the path directly
along the edge of the court. I worry about people shooting basketballs at the hoop, missing,
and potentially hitting someone walking along the path. One idea would be adding a small
buffer of grass in between the path and the court - just a thought.
The path is proposed immediately adjacent to the court so the grass area is as large as
possible, but this comment brings up an important consideration. Staff will discuss this with
the Rotary design team.
2. Second, I’m wondering if either the Town or Rotary would be able to add a few extra
benches along the existing asphalt path. Because the park is long, folks are often looking for
places to sit while on walks through the park and seating is currently limited. Especially after
further activating the park, it seems a few extra benches would go a long way.
We discussed this with the Rotary team as part of the development process, but agreed that
the Rotary should focus their funding on the oak grove space and walkways. Staff will work
on bench additions along the existing pathway outside the scope of the Rotary project and
as funding permits.
