SUBJECT: Interview Applicants for the Youth Commission and Make Recommendations
for the Town Council Appointments
RECOMMENDATION:
Interview applicants for the Youth Commission and make recommendations for the Town
Council appointments.
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of the Youth Commission is to foster and encourage civic and neighborhood pride
and create a sense of identity through knowledge, understanding, and increased involvement in
the Town's present and future municipal affairs. The Youth Commission shall generally be
responsible for studying various interests and issues of concern to the youth in Los Gatos and
advise the Town Council on such matters.
Applicants to the Youth Commission can be any student entering grades 8 through 12 in the fall,
and either a resident of the incorporated limits of the Town of Los Gatos or have residency in
an unincorporated area of the County of Santa Clara which has a Los Gatos mailing address.
Applicants must complete the appropriate application and submit it during the recruitment
period by the established deadline. Current Commissioners may seek to be reappointed upon
the expiration of their current term, and reappointment to a new term is not automatic. Those
Commissioners seeking reappointment must submit an application.
Current Commissioners were notified of their term expiration and notices of the upcoming
vacancies were posted on social media, published in the Town newsletter, and posted on the
Town’s website.

DISCUSSION:
The Town of Los Gatos conducted a recruitment for 14 Youth Commission seats and received 27
applications by the deadline of 4:00 p.m. May 1, 2024 (applications are on file in the Clerk’s
Office). On May 15, 2024, the Town Selection Committee will interview the applicants. The
number of vacancies and applications received for the Youth Commission are as follows:

CONCLUSION:
Following the interviews, the Committee will make its recommendations for appointments and
instruct the Town Clerk to prepare a report with the recommendations for Council
consideration at the June 4, 2024, Town Council regular meeting.
