Attachment 3- Letter of JustificationJonathan Schantz Sunra Builders jon@sunrabuilders.com 831-334-4680 Dear Historic Preservation Committee, We are writing to submit a proposal for the replacement of windows, siding, and trim at 19 Clifton Ave, with the aim of preserving the historic integrity of the building while enhancing its longevity and aesthetic appeal. Windows: We propose replacing all windows and patio doors with Marvin "Ultimate Series" windows. Specifically, we advocate for the Marvin Ultimate Fiberglass series, which features a fiberglass exterior and wood interior. These windows not only replicate the original design, including grid lines on French doors and the kitchen window, but also offer superior durability compared to real wood windows. The use of matching "ogee" sticking further ensures that the historic aesthetic of the building is maintained. Additionally, we have provided an all-wood alternative from Marvin Ultimate for your consideration. Siding: The current siding on the structure is in poor condition, with rotting sections, mismatched pieces, and missing areas. To rectify this, we propose removing and replacing all siding with redwood that matches the original product within a tolerance of 1/8". This will not only restore the building's exterior to its former glory but also ensure its structural integrity for years to come. Trim: Trim elements will be either restored or replaced with matching products, depending on their condition. This meticulous approach to trim preservation will contribute to the overall coherence of the building's appearance and historic character. Overall, these proposed improvements are essential for ensuring the long-term preservation and continued existence of this historic structure. By carefully selecting materials and replicating original designs, we aim to honor the building's heritage while also preparing it for the future. We respectfully request your approval for this proposal and look forward to any feedback or guidance you may have. Sincerely, Jonathan Schantz, 831-334-4680 ATTACHMENT 3 This Page Intentionally Left Blank
