SUBJECT: Adopt an Enabling Resolution to Change the Name of the Parks Commission
to the Parks and Sustainability Commission and Add Appropriate Powers and
Duties and Rescind Resolution 2016-057; and Introduce an Ordinance Titled
“An Ordinance of the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos Amending Town
Code Section 19.20.010, ‘Parks and Recreation – Created’ and Section
26.10.070, ‘Trees and Shrubs – Appeals’ to Update Reference to Parks
Commission to Parks and Sustainability Commission”
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt an enabling resolution to change the name of the Parks Commission to the Parks and
Sustainability Commission and add appropriate powers and duties and rescind resolution 2016-
057 (Attachment 1); and introduce an ordinance titled “An Ordinance of the Town Council of
the Town of Los Gatos Amending Town Code Section 19.20.010, ‘Parks and Recreation –
Created’ and Section 26.10.070, ‘Trees and Shrubs – Appeals’ to Update Reference to Parks
Commission to Parks and Sustainability Commission” (Attachment 2).
BACKGROUND:
On October 17, 2023, the Town Council directed staff to return with a revision to the enabling
resolution of the Parks Commission to change its name to the Parks and Sustainability
Commission and expand its mission to incorporate issues to sustainability with a natural
resource focus.
DISCUSSION:
Staff has reviewed the Town Code, the Parks Commission enabling resolution, and the 2040

DISCUSSION (continued):
General Plan’s Sustainability Element. The proposed amended resolution and ordinance reflect
the change of the Commission’s name and proposes changes to the Commission’s mission to
reflect taking on those aspects of the General Plan that relate to open space and natural
resource-based goals.
CONCLUSION:
The proposed resolution and ordinance align with the Town Council direction from October 17,
2023. If the updated resolution and ordinance are approved, the renamed Commission will
begin its work at its next regular meeting in December 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:
This is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required.
