DRAFT RESOLUTION 2023- RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS TO SEEK
MEMBERSHIP IN THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PEOPLE (AARP)
NETWORK OF AGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES
WHEREAS, in 2017, the World Health Organization designated the Town of Los Gatos as
a member of the Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities; and
WHEREAS, the health and safety of community members of all ages is of highest
concern to the Los Gatos Town Council as demonstrated in the adopted 2040 General Plan that
guides the physical development of the community, including infrastructure investments; and
WHEREAS, on February 7, 2023, the Town Council endorsed the Senior Services
Roadmap as a ten-year plan to guide the revitalization of senior services in Los Gatos; and
WHEREAS, on March 7, 2023, the Town Council directed Senior Services Roadmap year
one implementation items to appropriate Town Commissions; and
WHEREAS, members of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities become part of
a global network of communities that are committed to giving their older residents the
opportunity to live rewarding, productive and safe lives; and
WHEREAS, membership in the Network of Age-Friendly Communities includes access to
technical assistance and expertise that may facilitate the Town’s implementation of the Senior
Roadmap and other livable communities investments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Town of Los Gatos Town Council is committed
to continuing its efforts to ensure Los Gatos is a well-designed, livable community that
promotes health and sustained economic growth for residents of all ages, and the Town of Los
Gatos seeks to apply to the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities.
