What We Heard
April 18, 2023 Town Council Direction:
Revise the Design to Minimize Excess Asphalt Pavement Areas
Remove Parking Spaces
Add Trees Where Possible
Hold a Community Meeting
April / May 2023 Emails from the Community:
Shannon Road should look and feel like other residential streets in Los Gatos
Concept 1 (presented Sept 2021) is preferred
Parking is required / Parking is NOT required
Planting strips are required
6
How Staff Responded
Discussed options for balancing the direction from Town Council and comments from the community
Developed two alternative concepts / sought cross sections that would provide more rural experience and look more like Concept 1
A word about bike lane buffers:
Increase distance between vehicles and cyclists
Provide space for cyclists to pass each other without entering traffic
Provide safety for cyclists
Minimum 18-inches wide is recommended; 36-inch width increases safety
The proposed design includes buffers due to the volume of school traffic / younger riders that use this street
And landscape buffers:
Improve aesthetics and provide more rural feeling
Increase distance between cars and pedestrians
Improve sight distance at driveways and cross streets
