Board, and Planning Commission
RECOMMENDATION:
Interview applicants and make appointments for the following Boards and Commissions: Arts
and Culture Commission, Building Board of Appeals, Community Health and Senior Services
Commission, Complete Streets and Transportation Commission, Finance Commission, General
Plan Committee, Historic Preservation Committee, Library Board, Parks Commission, Personnel
Board, and Planning Commission.
BACKGROUND:
The Boards and Commissions advise the Los Gatos elected officials on a variety of policy and
community interest matters. The Town of Los Gatos had an open recruitment for 11 Boards and
Commissions (including the Finance Commission), with members appointed by the Town
Council with the exception of the Finance Commission. Per Los Gatos Municipal Code section
2.50.205(c)(4) each member of the Town Council shall appoint one Citizen Appointee to the
Finance Commission.
Any resident interested in serving on a Town Board or Commission must complete the
appropriate application and submit it during the recruitment period by the established
deadline. Current Commissioners may seek to be reappointed upon the expiration of their
current term, but reappointment to a new term is not automatic. Those Commissioners
seeking reappointment must submit an application.

BACKGROUND (continued):
Current Commissioners were notified of their term expiration and notices of the upcoming
vacancies were published in the newspaper, posted on social media, published in the Town
newsletter, and posted on the Town’s website.
DISCUSSION:
On December 13, 2022, Council will interview applicants for the vacant Board, Commission, and
Committee positions with one exception. The interviews for the Finance Commission were
conducted by Vice Mayor Ristow for the vacant seat with a term expiring December 31, 2024,
and by Council Member Badame for the seat with a term expiring December 31, 2022.
Following the interviews, the Council may appoint applicants to the vacant positions with a
majority vote, exclusive of the Finance Commission. Upon completion of the appointment
process, the Clerk will announce the votes and the appointment to the Finance Commission per
Los Gatos Municipal Code section 2.50.205(c)(4) will be made by the respective Council
Member.
The Town Clerk will continue to advertise any unfilled positions and welcomes any additional
direction from the Town Council. The next scheduled recruitment is set for February 2023 with
interviews to be held in May/June 2023.
The number of vacancies and applications received for each Board, Commission, and
Committee are as follows:

Notable projects have included addressing the formula shortage, understanding how the City of San Jose can support women seeking abortions after the overturn of Roe v. Wade, expanding subsidized childcare access and facilities with $10.5 million in American Recovery Plan (ARP) funds, and a $2 million RFP for tutoring services, also from ARP funds.
• Manage a team of three policy advisors and provide professional development opportunities and guidance on career pathways for the end of the Mayor’s term.
• In six months, raise over $1 million in funds to support San Jose (SJ) Aspires, a college access program for first generation college-going students, including multi-year 6-figure gifts.
• Prospect and solicit 100 corporate funders for supporting key initiatives for Mayor Liccardo.
• Facilitate C-suite meetings for the Mayor to make fundraising pitches for SJ Aspires.

• Steward a portfolio of 70 corporate donors like Apple, Google, and Facebook, raising a total of $21 million, with the largest gift secured being over $1,000,000.
• Act as a strategic partner to my Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contacts to help them achieve their community and employee engagement goals.
• Spearheaded projects to advance organizational level goals and build synergy with Corporate Partners, including implementing volunteer activities for corporate campuses and pivoting to accommodate volunteer activities during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place.
• Led the revamp our corporate sponsorship program to incorporate attractive benefits to corporations and streamline our internal processes to better stewards our resources; these changes led to a 12%
