ACCEPT COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION TO APPOINT LEILA VAEZ-IRAVANI AND ELANAH ENTIN AS STUDENT COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSIONERS RECOMMENDATION: Approve Commission recommendations for student commissioners. 1. Accept Parks Commission recommendation to appoint Emily Machado and Paige White as Student Parks Commissioners. 2. Accept Community Services Commission recommendation to appoint Leila Vaez-Iravani and Elanah Entin as a student Community Services Commissioners. BACKGROUND: The Parks and Community Services Commissions have identical residency requirements and recruitment and appointment processes for student members. Students are recruited during the recruitment period from April through June. Following the June application deadline, the student's eligibility is confirmed by the Clerk's Department. Qualified students are then interviewed by sub- committees of the commission to which they ale applying. The sub -committee's recommendation PREPARED BY: JOHN E. The student commissioners appointed by Council will begin their term of office immediately after taking the Oath of Office. DISCUSSION: Each Commission has two student vacancies, and eleven applications were received. The Parks Commission received four applications, the Community Services Commission received seven applications, and three applicants applied to both commissions. Parks Commission: On August 2, 2005, the Parks Commission approved the sub -committee's recommendation that Emily Machado and Paige White would best serve the Commission. Community Services Commission: The Community Services Commission Chair and Vice -Chair held interviews on August 9, 2005, and recommend that Leila Vaez-Iravani and Elanah Entin be appointed. CONCLUSION: It is recommended that Council accept the recommendations from the Parks and Community Services Commissions to appoint Emily Machado and Paige White to the Parks Commission, and Leila Vaez-Iravani and Elanah Entin to the Community Services Commission. ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENTS: This is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required. FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact. Attachment: 1.
