SUBJECT: DISCUSSION OF PROPOSED BANNER PROGRAM
RECOMMENDATION:
Discussion of proposed banner program.
BACKGROUND:
Item #7 in the Council Agenda packet (Downtown and Los Gatos Blvd. Banner Program) shall serve
as the materials for this Study Session.
DISCUSSION:
Staff and the design consultant will present the proposed banner program as recommended by the
Banner Working Group. The presentation will discuss banner locations, size, materials, hardware,
design and cost. Rick Tharp, our design consultant, will explain the thinking that went into the one
proposed design, as well as presenting ideas for future designs. Should the Council concur with the
recommendations, it may approve the program (location, size, materials, hardware and one design)
on the consent calendar of the regular Council meeting following the Study Session. From Council
direction provided at the Study Session, the Working Group will develop a second banner design to
be presented to the Council in early 2003.

The Town Council/Parking Authority/Redevelopment Agency of the Town of Los Gatos met in the
Council Chambers of the Town Hall, 110 East Main Street, at 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2002,
in joint special, study session.
ROLL CALL
Present: Steven Blanton, Sandy Decker, Steve Glickman,
Joe Pirzynski, and Mayor/Chairman Randy Attaway.
Absent: None.
DISCUSSION OF PROPOSED BANNER PROGRAM FOR THE
DOWNTOWN AND LOS GATOS BOULEVARD AREAS
Staff and design consultant presented the proposed banner program as recommended by the Banner
Working Group. Locations, size, materials, hardware, design, color and cost were considered.
Design consultant, Rick Tharp, explained the thinking that went into the proposals. Marty
Woodworth, Redevelopment Manager, reported on the project and the benefits that this will bring
to the business community. The designs were displayed for Council's consideration. Colors would
be consistent with the colors already chosen. The smaller banners would be displayed downtown and
the larger ones would be placed on the boulevard.
Colors were discussed with the terra cotta color complementing the bricks and the greens reflecting
the colors of the trees. The adobe colors would be picked up with the beige backgrounds. The poles
and finials were discussed, noting that all hardware should look like it is part of the whole light pole.
Council asked for elegant banners reflecting downtown colors.
ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Attaway closed this evening's meeting at 6:55 p.m.
