SR 17 Corridor Congestion Relief Project
Overview
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), in cooperation with the Town of Los Gatos and the
California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), proposes to construct improvements on State Route (SR)
17 and upgrade the SR 17/SR 9 interchange in the Town of Los Gatos.
Objectives
The purpose of this project is to:
•Relieve congestion and improve traffic operations on the freeways and local roadways;
•Reduce cut through traffic in the Town of Los Gatos;
•Improve bicycle and pedestrian facilities and connectivity; and
•Support interfacing with multi-modal congestion relief solutions.
Project Features
The proposed improvements may include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Modify on- and off-ramps at the SR 17/SR 9 interchange.
•Modify SR 17 mainline lanes and shoulder to eliminate lane-drops and bottlenecks from Lark Avenue to SR
17/SR 9 interchange.
•Implement and/or interface with advanced transportation technology solutions such as advanced traffic
signal control systems being implemented by the Town, advanced traveler information systems, advanced
ramp metering systems and web-based applications.
•Implement complete streets consistent features to improve bicyclist and pedestrian travel.
Capital Cost/Project Funding
The project cost is estimated to be between $40 million and $50 million, contingent on the final determination
of improvements. The project is to be funded by a combination of VTA 2016 Measure B, local funds and other
funds as available.
