Subject: Town Plan 2040
Hi Jennifer,
Would you please replace the email I sent you yesterday with the following, and add the edit to
section 5.12.
PFS 25.7 Support visual arts, permanent art and history collections and local history
education and programs
Continue to support the growth of New Museum Los Gatos, its visual arts program, local history
and education programming, and the stewardship of its Art and History Collections for service to
and benefit of, visitors and participants of all ages.
Implementation Plan
Implements policy 25.7
UU Study the feasibility of dedicating a permanent location for an art and history museum to
support and enhance the innate character of the town.
Section 5.12:
Replace
“Los Gatos has a museum – the New Museum of Los Gatos (NUMU). Formerly the Museum of
Los Gatos which was founded in 1965, NUMU is a public non-profit art and history museum
located in the Town’s Civic Center Plaza. (Source: General Plan 2040 Background Report)”
With:
New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU) has been a key cultural element of the Town since its
founding in 1965, contributing to the unique character of Los Gatos.
The Museum’s stated mission is to engage the community at the intersection of art, history and
education through innovative, locally connected and globally relevant exhibits, programs and
experiences. NUMU actively partners with many community organizations and Town
departments and government leaders to make programs accessible and responsive to the
community. A member of the Los Gatos Arts and Culture Commission serves on its Advisory
Board, and a member of the Youth Commission is a Community Representative on the Board of
Directors.
The Museum is the custodian of an extensive art and history collection and works with the Los
Gatos Library and other resources to enrich an understanding of our cultural heritage.
Thanks,
Jan & Maureen
