RECOMMENDATION:
Consider the proposed project and request for approval.

PROJECT SUMMARY:
The applicant is requesting approval for exterior alterations to a commercial space (17 N Santa
Cruz Avenue) in the La Canada building located in the Town’s Historic Commercial District.

DISCUSSION:
The project scope includes removal of the existing awning, arched-top windows and frames,
door and sidelite, and wood panels above the windows (Attachment 7, Sheet A100). The
proposal includes installation of new rectangular windows, entry door and sidelite, and new
wood panels above the windows (Attachment 7, Sheet A300). The proposed modifications
would be consistent with the facades of other commercial spaces within the La Canada
building.
ACTION:
Considerations Required with Recommendation
In evaluating applications, the deciding body shall consider the architectural style, design,
arrangement, texture, materials and color, and any other pertinent factors. Applications
shall not be granted unless:
1. In historic districts, the proposed work will neither adversely affect the exterior
architectural characteristics or other features of the property which is the subject of
the application, nor adversely affect its relationship, in terms of harmony and
appropriateness, with its surroundings, including neighboring structures, nor
adversely affect the character, or the historical, architectural or aesthetic interest or
value of the district.
Should the Committee find merit in the request, the project would be submitted for Building
Permit review. If the Building Permit plans are in substantial conformance with the approved
project plans (Attachment 7), the Building Permit could be issued and the project would not
return to the Committee.
