No B.Comments An Architectural and Site Application (S-17-028) for a second story addition to a pre- 1941 structure was submitted on June 30, 2017. The applicant is requesting to remove the pre-1941 residence from the Historic Resources Inventory and has provided supporting documents indicating the residence has lost its integrity as multiple additions were constructed in 1981. DISCUSSION: Considerations The primary structure that was constructed prior to 1941 has no historic significance or architectural merit. 1. The building is not associated with any events that have made a significant contribution to the Town. 2. No significant persons are associated with the site. 3. There are no distinctive characteristics of type, period or method of construction or representation of work of a master; and/or the integrity has been compromised such that the structure no longer has the potential to convey significance. 4. Letter of Justification for remova l from histo rical list Dear Ryan and HPC members: ----~ -RECEIVED JUL I O 2018 TOWN OF LOS GA To s P L ANN I NG DI VIS ION Upon evaluation of the property located at 16928 Kennedy Rd., it becomes clear that the home is a candidate for removal from the Town's historical listing. There is no significant reason, historically or architecturally for it to remain on the list. The home is not located in a historical district and is surrounded by many newly built/modern homes. The home has also been modified with multiple additions ove r the years significantly changing the original structure. On June 25, 2018, the historic research was conducted for the property on 16928 Kennedy Road at the Los Gatos Public Library. The librarian who volunteered to assist is Jeanette Rapp. The property is neither shown on the 1944 Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps nor on the 1941 Tax Assessment Survey. There is no record of the property in the 1991 Anne Bloomfield Historic Resources Survey. It is not in the list of the 100 Bel/ringers or the Museum of Los Gatos Historic Homes Tours and programs. The property appeared on Polk's Directories through the year of 1952 to 1974, owned by Mrs. Emma L Schafer. The home has had multiple permitted remodels and additions, noted on the list below: • 1981-Add bedrooms and expand the kitchen • 1992 -Remove existing slate roof, install new slate roof underlayment • 2000-Master bathroom remodel • 2005 -Kitchen remodel Please see the attached blueprint of the original structure and coordinating diagram detailing the original structure (in blue} and the additions/modifications in red. Also note that currently the windows on all facades do not match in style or type, further adding to the degradation of the original structure. There are some interesting existing details on the front fa~ade that will be maintained and enhanced in the proposed remodel. The owner also wishes to keep the original feature window and front door and re-use, as indicated in the proposed plans. While the home is well maintained and in good condition, it is not a contributor from a historical standRoint and should be allowed to be removed from the list.
