Main Street Los Gatos, CA 95030 November 10, 2015 Re: THE McDONALD RESIDENCE ADDI110NIREMODEL, 145 GLEN RIDGE AVE Re: Window Mullions Members of the Committee : Significant progress has been made on the remodel at 145 Glen Ridge Avenue, both on the interior and exterior. The exterior siding and trim work was completed several weeks ago which allowed the painters to do their thing. With the summer heat behind us, the scaffolding and sun screens were taken down, exposing the front facade and providing the local community with a good look of what we hope is ultimately the final design. 51 University Avenue, Suite L • Los Gatos, CA 95030 • 408.395-2555 McDONALD RESIDENCE ADDITION-REMODEL, 145 GLEN RIDGE AVE. PAGE 2 OF 2 , 11110/15 As you are all well aware, the issue at hand is the added mullions to the upper sashes of the second floor windows, as well as a few smaller scattered casement windows with a nine square pattern. We regret not bringing this detail to the Committee for their opinions about this. However, we still firmly believe the added mullions don't distract form the architecture and in fact add an understated texture and detailing to an otherwise stoic facade. This w indow pattern is "period appropriate", according to the Committee's go-to book A Field Guide to American Houses. The interior detailing is pretty far along , and while it isn't part of this discussion , Scott McDonald has graciously extended an invitation to tour the house and see the excitement of the remodel. We were expecting to host a site visit with the entire Committee, as previously discussed, but due to the Brown 's Act, this would be a violation. We encourage all of you to co nsider schedul ing your site visit during working hours so you can access the interior. Also, don't miss the rear veranda , with the replica Corinthian columns, dentil moulding and brick wainscoting . CONCLUSION Speaking on behalf of Scott and Loann (Nguyen) McDonald, I sincerely hope you can look at this request with new eyes and an open mind. We don't want this to simply be a matter of retroactive punishment. I hope you agree with me that Scott is going well beyond the norm in regards to the level of quality and detailing while remodeling and retrofitting this lovely home. Regards,
