Item 1 - Draft Minutes 9-30-15DRAFTTOWN OF LOS GATOS 110 East Main Street, Los Gatos, CA 95030 (408) 354-6872 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS FOR SEPTEMBER 30, 2015, HELD IN THE TOWN COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 110 E MAIN STREET, LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The meeting was called to order at 4:00 P.M. by Chair Len Pacheco. ATTENDANCE Members Present: Len Pacheco, Bob Cowan, Kathryn Janoff, Michael Kane, Tom O’Donnell Members Absent: None Staff Present: Joel Paulson, Planning Manager VERBAL COMMUNICATIONS None. ITEM 1 215 ALEXANDER AVENUE Gary Kohlsaat (Architect) Kip Martin (property owner) were present and discussed the proposed project and the modifications made since their last meeting. Tom O’Donnell commented that he is thinking about the diamond pattern on one window, that he likes that the large dormer was removed, and that the stone looks good. Michael Kane commented that he reviewed the past minutes and that the applicant has done what was asked. Kathryn Janoff agrees with Michael Kane and commented on the odd roof transition. Bob Cowan stated the roof transition wouldn’t be seen from ground level. Kathryn Janoff asked how lead glass pattern in one window and the front door is appropriate. Maybe it should be used on all the front windows. Bob Cowan commented that it is consistent with previous direction and the character of the house. Len Pacheco commented that the lead pattern is a challenge, that there are not enough windows on the left side, that a pair of windows should be wrapped DRAFTHistoric Preservation Committee September 30, 2015 Page 2 of 4 around on the left side, the garage gable end is awkward and asked if a hip roof could be used on that side. The architect commented that the gable end won’t be seen and that it was done for the property owner’s benefit and that a window could be added to the office area. Len Pacheco commented that clerestory windows would be okay. Kathryn Janoff commented that windows in the walk-in closet could be done. Len Pacheco commented that he is okay with only one window with leaded glass and that it should be for the living room window only. Kathryn Janoff agreed with Len Pacheco and commented that the off-centered pattern is a good idea and asked that a window in the walk-in closet be considered. Len Pacheco recommended a hip roof on the garage, but did not obtain consensus. Bob Cowan Len Pacheco moved to recommend approval of the proposal as augmented by the renderings with direction to use the diamond pattern for the leaded glass on the living room window and provide two windows on the left elevation in the office because the proposal is compatible and consistent with the characteristics of the house and the neighborhood. The motion was seconded by Len Pacheco and approved unanimously. Michael Kane commented that the gable end on the garage won’t be seen.
